They say paper burns at 451°F. Or was that the just the title of a book? It's been so long, I can't remember anything these days. They got rid of paper so long ago. It was more efficient to use computers, they said. Saved space. They razed libraries and replaced then with data centers manned with men in white coats to ensure the information was tended properly. Slowly the records that books even existed were eraased. Saved space.

The storm moved so quickly, we were all caught unaware. We managed to erect the shelters in time, but I fear they will not last the length of the storm. Supplies are low; everyone is in a quiet panic. Stephen is going stir-crazy, first from the sneaking around we had to do and now this. I fear Irene is on her way out as well. The stress is causing her to crack. I must admit I feel a certain sense of hopelessness myself, but any sane man would, give the current situation of no food, icy gale force wind, and being surrounded on three sides by people who want to kill you. And the fourth side is a forest of questionable safety.

Have you ever heard the crackle of a candle flame? The spit and wheeze of the wick as the last speck of wax is vaporized? Have you ever watched the flame shrink ever smaller as its fuel disappears, only to suddenly vanish in a wisp of smoke? Have you ever dripped water on a candle? Tried to control the drops so one divebombs the wick and pops loudly as the water boils to steam? Watched droplets of cool water form islands of solid wax in a sea of less fortunate wax? Waited for the water to seep towards the wick, hissing loudly as the fire slowly murders the water?

They came from behind and from our left. We weren't expecting quite so many. We were caught off guard and were thrown into chaos. Night only makes it more terrifying. Sounds are amplified; someone dropping their ó)^*&k [!unrecoverable] makes everyone dive for cover. We should only be seperated from the main group for a few hours at most, this wasn't as bad of a "surprise" as it might have been.

We've survived one more day and all we need to do is camp for the night. Guard duty has been surprisingly easy as of late. Something isn't quite right, but I can't put my f&ôger [?finger] on it. It shouldn't be this easy, it's like they're not trying.
